Hei!Hello!Hi!Salut!Hallo!Hej!Hola!Ciao!Konnichiwa!Annyong ha-sayo!
I am Sinikka, a teacher of English and French in a high school in Finland. For me, languages and cultures are not only a lifelong passion and a profession, but, in fact, everyday life in my Finnish-British family. This passion has taken me to work as an au pair girl in Austria for a summer, as a summer course leader in England several times, as a Fulbright exchange teacher to multicultural students in Virginia, USA for a year, and most recently (summer 2006) as an ASEM-DUO teacher exchangee in South Korea. The world is my oyster – I wonder where next? In my life, I am hoping to visit all the continents of the world. For the time being, Africa, Australia and South America are still waiting their turn.I have been involved in many intercultural school projects for many years - mainly in Europe and Asia – and I am a keen learner of intercultural communication. I have only just begun to learn about Web 2.0 tools and their applications in education. I am hoping to network with many educators around the world to share ideas with.
What I’ve learned from all the wonderful people I’ve met from around the world comes down to this:
We dance
to different drumbeats,
Yet our faces are cooled
by the same wind.
We are different.
Yet our differences combined
make a harmonius sound.
(Inspired by Native American Poetry)
